Valery Gavrilin (1939–1999) is the distinguished Russian composer, having lived in the last third of the 20th century. His creative work is considered to be the kind of brilliant and original side of the world music art. Gavrilin’s music style may be recognized at once, it has imitators. Gavrilin’s music wins the hearts by its natural melodic sphere, modern national colouring, cordiality and sincerity, deep heartfelt compassion to the common people’s troubles and aspirations. This music is fine and serious, it’s smiling and sad, it’s intimately trusty with the kind of a grand soul inside it.

Again famous producer Alexander Belinsky was drawn by Valery Gavrilin’s music. Such achievements of Belinsky’s script writing as brilliant “Anyuta” (1982) and tragically-bosom “House at the Road (1984) — films-ballets with Gavrilin’s music — were already in the past. This time his thoughts were about “Balzaminov’s Marriage” — newly conceived film-ballet inspired by K. Voinov’s movie of the same name after the theatre trilogy by the great Russian dramatist A. N. Ostrovsky of the 19th century.

Why not to remember wonderful actors G. Vitsyn, N. Rumyantseva, N. Mordyukova, N. Kryuchkova, L. Gurchenko, Zh. Bykova and, of course, Boris Chaikovsky’s sparkling music. Voinov managed to outline unambiguous subjects of the true force, condemning rotten bourgeois society of Zamoskvorechye in the 19th century. Some episodes cast the atmosphere of D. Shostakovich’s “Katerina Izmailova (after N. Leskov) and painter B. Kustodiev’s personages of merchantry.
