Boris Napreyev (born in 1938) is a composer and a music researcher. He is the author of musical composition in almost all genres — from a song “Green Jackets” that is popular among student construction brigades for almost a half an age, to monoopera “A Reed Pipe”, acclaimed on stages in Finland.
Symphony No. 9 offered to your attention was written in 2019. Despite the laconic form, it has managed to keep audience’s attention by fulfilling brightness of tragic content. Thoughtfully picked cast reflects the author’s principal position: for him the orchestra has never been just an abstract performing unit, that’s why in all large compositions by Boris Napreyev (operas, symphonies, concertos, cantatas) an unusual choice of orchestral devices can be explained by the exact artistic tasks. The orchestra is unchangeable trustworthy and effective provider of composer’s artistic idea. This is clearly explained in the composer’s monograph “Orchestra and Fugue” (2008).
