Bach J.-S. Pastorale. Transcription for 1, 2, 3 guitars by V. Kuznetsov

The compositions contained in the album except the Aria “Agnus Dei” were written by Bach for the keyed instruments of his time, namely: the clavichord, the clavecin, and the organ. For the hammer piano invented in 1707 the composer didn’t create any works. The silent sounding, the ability to impart some vibration to the sound, the connection of each key with only one string, gives to clavichord a certain likeness to guitar. But the more sonorous clavecin also bears a typical resemblance to the sound of guitar strings. The clavecin also possesses a device haute with the help of which it resembles the lute. It should be noticed that the guitar appeared only at the end of the XVIII century. The suite BWV 997, the Saraband of which has a thematic likeness with the final choir of “The Passion according to St. Matthew” (Matthaus-Passion) was written by Bach for the lute dulcimer (Lautencymbal). In the invention of this instrument he took an active part.
