Yury Vladimirovich Kochurov (1907–1952), Russian composer mainly of song-setting of Pushkin, Lermontov and other poets, wrote also significant orchestral works, incidental and film music. The composer’s skill and stylistic sensitivity were strikingly revealed by his reconstruction of Tchaikovsky's “Voyevoda” and creation of Etudes for voice and piano after Glinka’s autographs.

Among Glinka's manuskripts kept in the St. Petersburg National Library there is the so-called “green notebook” containing, in particular, several drafts of vocalises. Some of them present only a melody, other have also an accompaniment outlined. Yury Kochurov had transformed the drafts into finished works, and so we were given the possibility to enjoy some more masterpieces of Russian music. The series “The Hornist's Golden Repertoire” is dedicated to the memory of the two outstanding Russian hornists, professors of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, who have created the original methods of horn teaching. Those were Mikhail Nikolayevich Buyanovsky (1891–1966), soloist of the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre orchestra, and his son Vitaly Mikhailovich Buyanovsky (1928–1993), soloist of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under Yevgeny Mravinsky.
