Henry Кling was born in Paris on February 14, 1842. In the course of his fairly long life (he died in 1918) Кling proved himself to be а remarkably gifted and versatile musician. He was known not only as а brilliant French horn player but also as а bandmaster, а distinguished pedagogue, theorist, and composer.

Several operas by Henry Кling were produced in Geneva from 1863 through 1877. He also wrote а number of instrumental and vocal compositions.

Especially valuable is the contribution Henry Кling made to the development of music teaching methods. He wrote а manual of instrumentation that ran into several editions and а manual of composition. He also compiled а popular school of French horn playing and schools of piano, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, double bass, guitar, mandolin and bow zither as well.

Working as а professor at Geneva Conservatoire, Henry Кling contributed greatly to the development of French horn performing tradition and enriched it by composing pieces, concertos, duets, trios, and instrumental arrangement. He fulfilled the edition of all W. А. Mozart's concertos for horn. He made the clavier arrangement of the Quintet for horn and strings (KV 407).

The collection of duets for two horns by Н. Kling was found in the archive of the court orchestra of St Petersburg and is very valuable up to nowadays as the educational material for those, who study the French horn.

The collection is published in Russia for the first time.
