Henry Kling was born in Paris on February 14, 1842. In the course of his fairlу lоng life (he died in 1918) Kling proved himself to be а remarkably gifted and versatile musician. He was known not only as a brilliant French horn player but also as а bandmaster, а distinguished pedagogue, theorist, and composer.

Several operas by Henry Kling were produced in Geneva from 186З through 1877. He also wrote a number of instrumental and vocal compositions.

Especially valuable is the contribution Henry Kling made to the development of music teaching methods. He wrote a manual of instrumentation that ran into several editions an a manual of composition. He also compiled a popular school of French horn playing and schools of piano, clarnet, oboe, bassuun, double bass, guitar, mandolin and bow zither as well.

Working as a professor at Geneva Conservatoire, Henry Kling contributed greatly to the development of French horn performing tradition and enriched it by composing pieces, concertos, duets, trios, and instrumental arrangements.
