Francis Poulenc was born in 1899. His birth place was Paris, where in 1963 he finished his life-way.

In 1920 he was the member of the “Group of Six” — society of the French composers.
F. Poulenc created in different genres (piano, vocal, chamber-instrumental).

His first large-scaled composition “Does” (1923) was intended for the S. P. Dyagilev’s company “Russian Ballet”. Abundance and beauty of colours and ample cantilena made for the new title he was given in France —  “the French Schubert”.

His repertoire embraces more than 160 songs to the French poets’ verses. Poulenc’s contribution to the opera genre is really immense, so as to the ecclesiastic music.
Poulenc’s opuses for the winds include:
     — Trio for trumpet, French horn and trombone (1922)
     — Trio for hautboy, bassoon and piano (1926)
     — Sestet for flute, hautboy, clarinet, bassoon, French horn and piano (1939)
     — Sonata for flute and piano (1956)
     — Sonata for hautboy and piano (1962)
     — Sonata for clarinet and piano (1962)

The Elegy for French horn and piano dates 1957, being dedicated to D. Brain.
