Vladislav USPENSKY (1937–2004) studied at the Musical College of the Moscow Conservatoire, graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire (Boris Arapov’s class). Dmitri Shostakovich conducted his post-graduate education during 1962–1965. Later he taught at the Leningrad/Petersburg Conservatoire. Among his pupils are Igor Kornelyuk, Lora Kvint, Yevgeny Irshai and other renowned figures of modern music art. During a long period Uspensky served as the vice-chairman of the St. Petersburg Composers’ Union.
He managed to compose in various possible genres. His works were interpreted in different periods by such distinguished performers as B. Gutnikov, P. Serebryakov, A. Janssons, I. Bogachyova, G. Rozhdestvensky, V. Chernushenko, S. Leiferkus, F. Hirschhorn, M. Vengerov, R. Fabricciani, V. Stockmayer, so as such pop stars as E. Pyekha, I. Kobzon, V. Tolkunova, I. Ponarovskaya, I. Miroshnichenko.
