David Popper (1843–1913) is the prominent Czech cellist, one of the most outstanding musicians of his times. His biography is worth a volume by itseld, he performed in the best ensembles with the best performers of the XIX century, European tourneys, teaching in Budapest Conservatoire…

Composer wrote many works for his beloved cello. The second album contains four well known pieces by D. Popper: Butterfly, French rustic song, Elegia and Spinning wheel.

The first and the last pieces are brilliant virtuoso works. One would not find dramatic episodes there, the whole pieces are dedicated to velocity and require considerable skills. Speaking of a pupil, he will need all of them and let he be guided by the famous brilliant performance by M. Rostropovich.

The middle pieces are slow and melodic. Here focus is at singing, be it French rustic motives or Slavonic one (Elegia).
