I hope the suite “Jolly Steam Train” will be after the hearts of both young musicians and mature masters. It was performed and recorded to the CD “Jolly Eyes” by the orchestrants of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Academical Symphony Orchestra.
Theatrical features are distinctly interlaced into the suite’s structure. Thus the Alarmclock acts as an independent personage in the first movement “Winding Clock”. Here the chimes are heard on the ground of ostinato ticking uttered by tiny winding clock. The resounding ringing Mr Alarmclock signs the end of this movement. Magic “Dwarfs Dance” depicts miraculous pygmies, a bit frightful and clumsy, starting their whirling impetuous blizzard.
The “Jolly Steam Train” is simultaneously the finale and culmination. Here the musicians are offered to imitate a moving train. Despite all puffings and sneezings the piece should be performed rather in serious with steady and balanced rhythm.
Good music-making to you!
