Boris Alexandrovich Arapov (1905–1992) — professor of music, People's Artist of Russia, one of the eldest representatives among the galaxy of Leningrad composers. His creation embraces three operas, seven symphonies, music to the ballet, series of symphonic and vocal instrumental works, having been performed both in Russia and abroad. More than 60 years were devoted by Arapov to pedagogical activity in the Leningrad Conservatoire, where he fostered several generations of composers. Since 1951 he headed the instrumentation faculty, the period of 1974–1992 is marked by his activity at the composition faculty.
