Viktor Ogorodnov (1953) was born in Leningrad. Since 1959 he lives in Gatchina. In 1978 Ogorodnov graduated from the faculty of choral conducting at the Leningrad Conservatoire, where he studied at professor T. I. Khitrova, while in 1980 he completed his education at the composition faculty, where his tutor was professor V. P. Chistyakov. M. Jassons became Ogorodnov's teacher at the conducting.
The Missa Brevis No 1 was firstly performed at the International festival “Music Spring in Petersburg” in 1989. The premiere took place in the Academic Kapelle Hall. The Missa was represented by the chamber choir “Dushe Miya”, organ — Yu. Semyonov, conductir — L. Ansheles.
