Sergei Yekimov (*1974) — composer, conductor, member of the Russia Composers’ Union, art director of the International Choral Art Festival “The Singing World”, art director and conductor of the Women’s Choir at the Choir-Conducting Department of the St. Petersburg N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Music College.

Yekimov is the graduate of the St. Petersburg State N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, where he studied choir conducting (professor F. M. Kozlov, Honoured Art Worker of Russia) and composition (professor Yu. A. Falik, People’s Artist of Russia).

Among his most significant compositions are “Stabat Mater” for soloists, two choirs and instrumental ensemble with dedication to A. Petrov’s memory (2006), “Magnificat” for boys’ choir, women’s choir, organ, piano and percussion (2007), “Miserere”, composition to M. Rostropovich’s memory for cello and women’s choir (2007), “Missa Brevis” for soloists, chamber choir and instrumental ensemble (2002), “Agnus Dei” for the woman-soloist, women’s choir, organ, piano and four percussions (1998–1999), “Mass” for vocal ensemble and string quartet (2007), “Five Catholic Chants” for soprano and organ (1998–1999), Three Choral Concertos to the verses of Ye. Yupashevskaya (1992), F. Garcia Lorca (1993–1996, edition of 1998) and A. Akhmatova (2006, edition of 2009), “The Last Fortune Is You…”, four canzonas for mixed choir a cappella to Nikolai Gumilyov’s verses (1993–1994), “Six Poems by Marina Tsvetayeva” for vocal ensemble (2002), “Endless Autumn”, eight five-line stanzas for soprano, mezzo soprano and piano from the ancient Japan lyrics (2002), “The Way of Blood Along the Way to God, vocal cycle to M. Dudin’s verses for basso and piano (2002), “Story of the Quail, Her Life and Death”, the Byelorussian folk song rather free arranged for saxophone, choir and chamber orchestra (2004), Album of piano pieces for children (1993), “Marfusha’s Songs” for children’s choir and piano (2008), choral cycles and miniatures, ecclesiastic music a cappella, music to performances, songs for children, arrangements of the Russian folk songs and foreign melodies, romances and songs by V. Basner, V. Solovyov-Sedoy, A. Petrov, I. Dunayevsky, V. Uspensky, author’s ones.

The composition “Miserere” for violoncello and female choir refers to July 2007, having appeared as the tribute of memory to Mstislav Rostropovich the distinguished cellist of the contemporaneity.
