Arapov B. Soul and Body. Vocal cycle for baritone and piano

Boris Alexandrovich Arapov (1905–1992), the distinguished representative of the Petersburgian composition school, People’s Artist of Russia, professor of the Leningrad Conservatoire was bred up by M. M. Chernov and V. V. Shcherbachyov. Among his creations there are seven symphonies, three operas, the ballet, instrumental concertos, many symphonic and chamber-instrumental opuses including the Revelation of St.John Theologian for string orchestra, violoncello, piano and percussion (1989), five piano sonatas, several vocal cycles to the verses by Pushkin, Blok, Gumilyov and Mandelstam, music to six films.

Boris Arapov’s pedagogical activity was inseparably connected with the Leningrad Conservatoire (1930–1992). He was appointed the head of the composition faculty in 1974. Among his disciples there are D. Tolstoy, S. Slonimsky, A. Knaifel, Yu. Falik, Vl. Uspensky, G. Banshchikov, L. Desyatnikov and other renowned Petersburgian composers.
