Alexey Mikhailovich Chernogorov (* 1922) — the Petersburgian composer, author of mainly children’s piano pieces and songs, vocal cycles, romances, orchestra opuses, including the ones for folk instruments.
Recently the “Compozitor Publishing House • Saint Petersburg” issued Chernogorov’s “Boogie-Woogie Fan” for two pianos and “Ave Maria” for high voice and piano. Once he was sleeping the idea struck him… Never did he hear any music to Mikhail Lermontov’s poem “To the Poet’s Death” devoted to A. S. Pushkin. Chernogorov studied it most scrupulous and tried to compose music to it. Meanwhile the musician had to abridge the text giving his own finale to it using the lines from the same poem to it.
