A role of Bach’s music in the process of shaping a musician cannot be overemphasized. In the history of cello art there wasn’t created anything equal to the cycle of his Six Suites in significance and perfection. This transcription for contrabass is a result of laborious efforts, deep analysis and creative research. It is intended to simplify the process of working on any part of the suite.
Studying of the 1st suite will help realizing one’s creative potential, develop performance endurance and flexibility of musical approach. Articulation and intonation features of the piece may entail changes in any part of the player’s apparatus and require reconsidering of the articulation technique, sound producing and intonation.
Proposed fingering with a domination of the open strings sound, comprising the interval structure of the contrabass tuning, pulls intonation into the natural scale system, enabling to zoom into a type of sound attributable to the Bach’s era.
Articulations in this transcription are not adapted for contrabass. They are brought closer to the manuscript, and retain features of Baroque performance.
