Vitaly Karonik is a composer and teacher, but he is also a school rector, his music school is located in Svetogorsk, Leningrad oblast. His music activity is honored with numerous awards and diplomas, his pupils regularly become winners of various competitions conquering heights of musical professional performance. In his portfolio one cam find the widest variety of pieces written for accordion and bayan, many of those are repeatedly included into the young musicians’ repertoire.

Among those there are pieces compiled into Granny’s Tales suite, written in style of Album for children for his beloved wife and daughter (like many such suites throughout the history of music written for beloved niece or nephiew). This genre dictates program titles of the pieces as well as moods and music images that depict everything that close to the composer’s heart.

The play of light ad shade is in focus of the cycle. Humorous pieces (Granny’s bicycle and Granny’s earrings) make way for sweet melodic ones (Granny’s reminescences) and even complex musical stories, reflections over eternal challenges of the mankind (To Eternity, My Svetogorsk ball, My forget-me-not).
