Author’s note

Dear friends, it is with great joy and excitement that I present the first edition of my music to you. The cycle of preludes for accordion solo was created during my studies at my alma mater — the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music. Each piece is associated with people that are dear to me. The E-moll Prelude is dedicated to the memory of Lev Andreyevich Smirnov, my first teacher, who not only taught me how to play, but did, perhaps most importantly, induced in me his love of music. He was an enthusiastic musician and composer, and thus left vivid impressions of himself in my childhood perception, the memory of him will always be with me. The other preludes are my musical tribute to those who played and continue to play an important role in my professional development, that is, to my teachers — E. E. Trauter, G. B. Yarushina, M. S. Burlakov.

As the distinguished composer Giya Kancheli said in the preface to his collection “Simple Music for Piano”, “...the pieces can be played in any sequence and in any quantity. The pieces can also be not played at all...”. The words cited are entirely appropriate to this edition as well.
