The name of guitarist and composer Victor Kozlov is renowned among the guitarists in Russia. His music enjoys popularity from Brest to Khabarovsk (since his native city is Chelyabinsk — the geographic centre of Russia, located in the Urals).

Victor Kozlov is the honoured artist of Russia, International Contest’s laureate, professor and the dean of the folk instruments faculty at the Chelyabinsk Tchaikovsky Music Institute. The best prestigious philharmonic halls in Russia and abroad gave evidence of his concert performances. Kozlov organizes guitar contests and festivals, taking part in them as the jury member.

The piece «Dedication to the Russian Land» dates 1991, the rather difficult time for Russian history. The country, which was once a vast one became suddenly cracked into many tiny states. Kozlov’s ponders about the destinies of Russia and its people in this dramatic piece. The composition consists of three sections. The first one is the solemn epic narration with repeated rhythmical figure. The second section is an impetuous vigorous dance passing to the elabaration of polyphonic structure. The finale returns to the previous mood and initial thematism.

The piece is intended for the students of music colleges and conservatoires.

Sergei Ilyin, guitarist, composer,
chief of the Petersburg Guitarists’ Club
