The genre of symphony may be called the sphere of paramount importance in Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770–1827) creation. The nine symphonies seem to embrace аll the periods of the composer's spiritual life. It's quite evident to reveal Beethoven's aesthetic finds and achievements in symphonic genre having infiuenced all the European musical tradition. Beethoven's powerful energy determined his position amongst the greatest world masters.

The Symphony No 9 D minor, ор. 125 is truly ranked among the compositions of Вееthoven’s acme. There was discovered the draft of the symphony's beginning made by the great master in 1809. The excerpts from movement II were sketched in note-books dating 1815 and 1817. The song «Reciprocal Love» (1794) and the theme froin the Fantasy for piano, choir and orchestra (1808) are akin to the symphony’s choral finale. During 1822–1823 the Ninth Syinphony was mastered in full swing, being accomplished to February, 1824.

Large-scaled Ninth Symphony is distinctive for its epic narrative mood. The solemn finale to Friedrich Schilller's Ode «То the Joy» with soloists and choir is Beethoven's innovation, bequeathing the well-trodden way to the Latest canvases with singing given birth by the Romanticism and the 20th century. The dramatuigic way «from darkness to lighb» is crowned with this imaginative apex. Thus the listener is led fiom the intmduction of the first movement, which according to А. N. Serov’s description, is imbibed with «bloody terrors» and «war ferocities». Finally the composer takes his listener to the Variations, which theme originates from drinking party song» in the last movement. Serov called it the “аll-реорlе tune”, while the whole Finale was defined by him as the “Aelisium of the Brotherhood and Joy Realm”.

The premiere took place on Мау 7, 1824.
