Alexander Zhurbin wrote a lot of compositions in various genres: from opera to song, from chamber music to music for movies. However, he himself considers that his main job is to write large symphonic pieces.

The Symphony No. 7 (“That Russian Symphony”), presented by the “Compozitor • Saint Petersburg” Publishing House, is the most recent of composer’s symphonies and the most humble by both instrumentation and length. It is dedicated to the town called Tarusa and some of its inhabitants. Obviously, it is a descriptive music, every chapter is named, music describes something very specific and real.

The author hopes that the Symphony No. 7 will be included into the repertoires not only of professional orchestras, but of student’s ensembles as well. The Symphony No. 7 was performed for the first time on 12th of September, 2021, in Tarusian concert hall by Chamber orchestra of Tarusa (conducted by Ivan Velikanov).
