Yuri Krasavin was born in 1953, in Kharkov. He studied in music colleges at Krasnodar and St Petersburg (in Galina Ustvolskaya class). In 1986 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg, where he studied composition with A. Mnazakanov.

He began to compose in 1970. Among his compositions are two concerts for piano with orchestra, “Novgorod concert” for piano in four hands, orchestral pieces, pieces for chamber ensembles, three piano sonatas, lots of piano works, pieces for children.
His First Piano Concerto won a prize at the Prokofiev International Composer’s Competition (1999). In the same year, his ballet “Magrittomania” was premiered by San Francisco Ballet. In 2003 he premiered his concert for violin and cello with orchestra “Seven stops in South East Asia” in Berlin.

Author of music for several movies: “The King”, “Brest Fortress”, “Isaev”, “And Quiet Flows the Don”, etc.

“Pechorin-Suite” for symphony orchestra was written in 2014 on the request of the Bolshoi Theatre for the 200th anniversary of M. Lermontov.
