Music to the performance “Egyptian Nights” of the Moscow Chamber Theatre was created by Sergei Prokofiev in 1933.
The enstaging was realized by A. Ya. Tairov according to his own scenic composition, formed from out the texts by A. Pushkin’s “Egyptian Nights”, B. Shaw’s “Caеsar and Cleopatra” and W. Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra”.
The premiere with Prokofiev’s music took place in February 1935. Alexander Metner (the composer Nikolai Metner’s brother) conducted the orchestra.
