Alexey Kurbanov (born in 1971) originates from Novgorod. Having graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire, where he studied composition at professor A. D. Mnatsakanyan and organ at professor N. I. Oksentyan, he was engaged in research on the organ music of the 1960ies-90ies. His work refers to 2000. Kurbanov was a probationer at the Rotterdam Conservatoire (Netherlands) in the classes of organ, organ improvisation, composition and piano. He conferred with leading European organists, having been awarded the title of laureate at composition and organ competitions and festivals. Nearly 170 pieces for piano, organ, choir and chamber ensembles belong to him.

Since April, 2000 Kurbanov lives in the city Aure (Norway). Serving as the StMary Church organist he carries on pedagogical activity conducting organ and piano at the local music school. The StPetersburg Composers' Union, the St-Petersburg Wagner Society, Cantors and Organists Association of Norway, the Trondheim Chamber Music Society.
