The present edition of the mazurkas by Fryderyk Chopin (1810–1849) is based on the composer’s complete works edited by Karol Mikuli (1821–1897), a student and assistent of Chopin. The sources of Mikuli’s edition (completed in 1879) were unique. Those were, firstly, the composer’s manuscripts and, secondly, the lifetime Paris edition of Chopin’s piano works, bearing marks put down by Chopin himself when he was teaching his students.
Moreover, the present edition is the first one in Russia, containing Chopin’s mazurkas that have been never published during composer’s life.
