The piece “Train in Four Hands” was composed by Evgeny Itskovich in 2004. The inner architectonics of the music language is cast by the impressions of Mozart's piano Fantasies and Beethoven's mature sonatas executed by the great Russian pianist Maria Yudina. However, the composer nourishes the facture with Bach's choral devices, craftily combined with abundant ensemble phonations, peculiar to Grieg. Classical spirit and novelty are mingled here in one whole; the dramaturgic aspect resembles some adventure story with its accumulated anxiety and outbursts. The author achieves this effect without any violent expressions or astonishments — simplicity is his directive here.
Pianists are called fourth to comprehend this spirit of virtuosity feeling the harmonic and polyphonic facture strata to influence each other.
