German Okunev (1931–1973) is the romantic person in the Russian music of the sixties — the beginning of the seventies of the XX century.

Okunev created series of significant compositions for different ensembles, but being a brilliant pianists he preferred piano genre. These are — the cycle for children “The Rainbow”, piano suite “The North's Echoes”, the version of symphonic suite “At the Festive Neva” for two pianos and percussion.

Among the composer's best creations there is the Concerto for Piano and Chamber Orchestra. Refined facture-timbre sounding in this compositions is full of lyricism and dramatic effect. That was the last completed composition by Okunev, wonderfully performed firstly by the author himself and the chamber ensemble directed by V. Zhordania in the Capella Hall at the festival “The Leningrad Music Spring” of April 26, 1973 year.

This Concerto may be rightfully called one of the best piano concertos of the 60ies–70ies.
