Igor Yefimovich Rogalyov (*1948) is the graduate of the Leningrad Conservatoire, where he studied composition with B. A. Arapov and piano with N. N. Poznyakovskaya. His post-graduate education in the composition class was guided by B. A. Arapov. Igor Rogalyov is the author of different kinds of operas; symphonic, string and chamber scores; vocal cycles, concertos, so as choral large-scale cantatas and oratorios belong to this fruitful author. Rogalyov also hits marks in the sphere of theatre and cinema music.

Valery Alexandrovich GAVRILIN (1939–1999)started his education at the Vologda Children Music School. Being fourteen he was admitted to the Secondary Special Music School of the Leningrad Conservatoire, where he studied clarinet and later — composition at Sergei Volfenzon. Subsequently he mastered his composition skill at the Leningrad Conservatoire under the guidance of Orest Yevlakhov and learned folklore at Feodosiy Rubtsov.

In 1967 Gavrilin was awarded the State Russian M. I. Glinka Prize for the cycle “Russian Notebook”, thus having become the youngest laureate of this prize in the whole country.

Valery Gavrilin is the author of four ballets, music to many theatre performances and films, four grandiose vocal-symphonic canvases, including the symphony-action “Chimes”, marked by the State USSR Prize, symphonic suites, numerous pieces for piano in two and four hands, songs, romances, chamber-vocal cycles, compositions for choir a cappella and chamber-instrumental works.
