Festive Overture Op. 96 was written by D. Shostakovich in 1947 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the October Revolution. The brilliant score and precision of expressive means together with the bravura character and impetuous tempo created a perfect composition stylistically addressing the listener to the masterpieces of Russian classical music.
This work first came out in 1954 and has since been performed by the best Russian orchestras — in concert halls and out on city streets and in parks during celebrations of national holidays.
The offered version of the Festive Overture for two pianos and synthesizer was composed by Gennady Belov, one of Shostakovich’s last pupils. The participation of the electronic instrument, which requires additional equipment is at the performers’ discretion.
The publication is intended for students of secondary and higher musical educational institutions and concert performers.
