Shostakovich D. Waltz. From the Suite for the variety orchestra

The presently published famous Waltz from the Suite for the variety orchestra by D. Shostakovich is very often erroneously attributed to Jazz Suite No 2 (1938). In fact it was composed in 1955 for the motion picture The First Echelon (tentative title Tselina, Virgin land), film director Mikhail Kalatozov. Soon afterwards the Waltz was included into the Suite for the variety orchestra in 8 movements as its 7th movement.

The piano transcription in 4 hands is arranged by the composer Alexander Raskatov in full accordance with the original score that was repeatedly published in USSR and beyond its borders.
