Boris Ivanovich Arkhimandritov (1932–2009) is one of the most mature composers of Petersburg, having created operas, ballets, symphonic works and a lot of chamber cycles.

The Sonata № 2 dates 1996, being devoted to the memory of the composer Lutsian Abramovich Prigozhin. That very year this sonata was firstly performed by the pianist Sergei Oskolkov.
