Zhannetta Metallidi is renown composer and teacher: she has developed comprehensive method of teaching music theory and composition for the initial period of music education. Composition and teaching are entwined in Zhannetta Metallidi’s life. Among her works one can find a variety of genres; she writes for chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestra, for choir and for young soloists, she composes cantatas and stage works, and all the abundance of her creativity is related to children.
The present piano album is addressed to middle and senior music school pupils. Pieces in this album are demanding, they feature dramatic development and require considerable piano skills.
Some pieces are genre-based (following their names) and they adhere strictly to genre features. (Toccata. Waltz) . However one can find free forms in the album that involve development and transformation of images (Humoresque, Intermezzo).
The style of Zh Metallidi can be described paradoxically as ‘complex simplicity’ it counterpoints the contemporary music dissonanses. Slightly it resembles Prokofiev that also operated by complex sonorities balancing them with clear and transparent forms, unsophisticated dramaturgy.
