German Okunev (1931–1973) is a Leningrad composer, pianist and musicologist and teacher of the Leningrad Conservatoire. Music for children represents considerable part of the composer’s heritage. The “Raduga” cycle is the most popular and loved piano collection for children, written in 1972. The structure of the cycle is thoroughly planned from the point of technical complexity. These bright and vivid pieces are commented by the author himself. In the his comments the composer draws the attention of the performer to the specific features of each new piece in the matter of rhythm, articulation, musical form.
