Vladimir TSYTOVICH (b. 1931) — graduate of the Leningrad Conservatoire (1958), where he studied composition with professor Boris Arapov, so as piano — with professor Isaya Braudo. Since 1961 he started his pedagogical career at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire, where he was appointed a professor title. Among his compositions there are 4 symphonies, instrumental concertos, chamber music, so as the children’s one, being performed not only in Russia, but also in France, Germany, Italy, USA...
The cycle of Ten Preludes for Piano was composed in 1963. The author dedicated it to Alexander Ikharev, the first performer of this opus.
Having been published already twice (1965 and 1974) the preludes enjoyed popularity among the pianists-performers. As for the educational purposes, the cycle would be useful for music colleges and conservatoires, being meanwhile on roll both in Russia and abroad.
