The collection “30 c1avier Etüden in allen tonarten” (“30 Clavier Etudes in All Keys”), ор. 130, by L. Kӧhler is considered to be the bibliographical rarity already for а long time. However this opus by the German composer, famous author of instructional pieces, was very popular in the second half of the 19th century. Thus, the outstanding Russian composer, pianist pedagogue, conductor and musical-public figure М. А. Balakirev insisted on studying 28 etudes out of 30 ones in some determined succession for his students. The etudes selected by Balakirev formed 3 issues of the present edition. Here Balakirev's numeration is preserved. It corresponds the order of priority, which Balakirev's students adhered to, while mastering them. Numerous performing indications, providing every etude, belong to the prominent German musician А. Henselt, whose part in the Russian musical education was of great importance. The opus 130 edited by him is remained in Balakirev's library.
Kӧhler’s etudes are distinctive for their facture model's diversity, embracing actually all kinds of piano technique. Thus the student is prepared to the romantic music playing.
