Alban Berg (1885–1935), the Austrian composer, considered to bе one of the greatest classics of the 20th century. Together with А. Webern and their соmmon teacher А. Sсhӧnbеrg he was the member of the creative association called New-Viennese School. Berg's music is distinct for its unveiled keen expressive utterances, striking contrasting outbursts, overcoming the states from eccentricity and grotesque to bosom lyrical languor of mostly subtle hints.

The Sonata for piano ор. 1 dates 1908, the early period in Berg's creation, before his interest to the atonal technique. The traditional tonal system is just а bit undermined here. Hence researchers discover the evident features peculiar to Skryabin in its harmonization. М. Tarakanov described this semblance the following way: “Berg and Skryabin are connected only by the sphere of refined lyrical languorous characters...” Delicate passages of lyrical moods and hints through expounded mild melodious expositions, evenly animated rhythm coinciding with polyphonic satiation in facture right in elaborative section and returning to the beginning imaginative sphere, however slightly dynamized in reprise. Here are the main stages of this composition.
