The present edition of the etudes by Fryderyk Chopin (1810–1849) is based on the complete works of the composer edited by Karol MikuIi (1821–1897), а pupi1 and assistent of Chopin. The sources of MikuIi's edition (completed in 1879) were unique. Those were, firstly, the composer's manuscripts and, secondly, printed copies of his works, bearing marks put down by Chopin in teaching his pupils.
