...More than two hundred years ago, in December 1781, an extremely interesting musical event took place in Vienna: the Italian virtuoso Muzio Clementi and the former leader of the Salzburg court chapel Wolfgang Amadeus Моzart competed in the performing skill. Manу listeners were more impressed by Clementi… 

Contemporaries called him “the father of the piano music”. And this is no by chance: all the many-sided activity of Clementi as а pianist, teacher, compоser, editor, and the possessor of а firm producing musical instruments was linked to establishing the piano that g lly drove back the harpsichord and clavichord. The piano compositions, first and foremost sonatas, prevail in the composer’s heritage. But, perhaps, the especially great services were performed bу Clementi as а teacher of an enormous numbеr of pupils who determined to the great extent the subsequent development of the piano playing. Among then was John Field, whose role in the history of the Russian piano school can be hardly overestimated. The study compositions by the Italian maestro аге customary popular. No pianist don’t probably know his sonatinas from the opus 36 presented in this collection. Therefore, the musician’s pedagogic percepts embodied in his compositions are alive. And those who play Clementi’s music mау consider themselves as having been participated in his glorious school of the pianism.
