Grieg E. Lyric Pieces for piano. Volume 1

Grieg wrote pieces for piano throughout his life. These pieces (there are over three hundred of them) may be compared to lyric poems.

The collection contains three volumes of Grieg's Lyric Pieces for piano (op. 12, 38 and 43), which аre widely used both in the teaching class and the concert hall. It is for this reason that they from the first volume of Grieg's works to be published by the St. Petersburg “Composer” Publishing House in its series “The Pianist's Golden Repertoire”. It is precisely in these pieces, to quote В. V. Asafiev, that “Grieg intensifies intimate music-making “by the fireside” and creates а sense of the sublime, not with any high-flown passions but with а quiet rapture with the beauty of reality: the reality of nature and of the human heart”. 

While basing the text on а series of Soviet editions of the composer's piano works, the editor has made а few amendments in line with the requirements of modern notation, but has retained fingering and phrasing which have become established by performance practice.
