In 1876 Henryk Ibsen's play Peer Gynt received its first performance in Christiania. At the author's request, the music to the play was written by Eduard Grig. So emerged one of the most remarkable works of this great Norwegian composer. By exploring the world of Norwegian folklore, the composer was able to create а work of unusual lyricism and strength of image. There are three distinctive strands in Grieg's music to Peer Gynt: the creative world of folksongs, the world of trolls and mountain spirits, and а warm, heartfelt lyricism. Grieg subsequently made two orchestral suites from the music for the play, and later still them for piano.

Thee composer's often republished piano arrangement of the suites in heard оп the concert stage and used in the teaching class. This composition of а great composer enjoys much popularity amongst а wide range of music-lоvers and enhances the domestic music-making of many of them.
