The series “The Pianist’s Golden Repertoire” which is to be published by the Compozitor Saint Petersburg • Publishing House is the music of the first importance for any piano player, whether he is a trainer, a student, a teacher or a performer.
This album belongs to the works by the famous Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953).
This album includes famous piano pieces by S. Prokofiev to have become a certain kind of “microspace” or “summary” of the composer’s great creativity. G. Ordzhonikidze, a famous Georgian musicologist, said: “These twenty pieces, op. 22, were written in 1915 through 1917 and then formed a cycle. As far as genre features are concerned each piece is clear and simple, either march, dance, choral, scherzo, etude or lyrical contemplation. Rich are the images. Variety of motions is here in these lyrical aphorisms, or a brief «diary». Owing to habitual genre features, we have our perception orient promptly, while owing to the fresh melodic base we feel like we wander down a mystery land. There are no images in this cycle, met in our previous experience. The images, though intermingled, never repeat themselves — there is of something we were unaware of before in each of them. Every piece is unexpectable, as far as melodic features are concerned”.
