This edition includes sonatas of such Austrian composers as G. C. Wagenseil, J. A. Štĕpán, F. X. Dušek and J. B. Wanhal, so far unknown to a wide range of musicians. The above representatives of the early Classical period of the Viennese School, predecessors and contemporaries of J. Haydn and W. A. Mozart, worked in the same period when clavier was displaced by fortepiano. Their efforts contributed to the formation and establishment of the Viennese Classical Style in the genre of piano sonata. Due to their high artistic level, the sonatas and divertimentos included in this edition can occupy a rightful place in the present-day collection of educational music for children’s music schools and music colleges.
