Carl Maria Weber (1786–1826) is the eldest among the German composers-romanticists. His career of pianists-virtuoso started, when the future composer was ten years old. Already being young, Weber had worked out his brilliant concert manner, i. e. emotional elation, effective devices, vivid sense of performing. This outstanding concert activity influenced the style of mature Weber’s piano compositions. Infectious rhythm, striking contrasts, magnificent and “winsome” appearance — all these qualities continue attracting numerous adherents both among pianists and listeners to Weber’s concert compositions.

However it’s important to understand, that it was Weber’s creative work, where the factural and genre-rhythmical peculiarities of the romantic pianism were formed, so clearly recognized in Schumann’s, Chopin’s and Liszt’s pieces… Just remember the quantity of “perpetuum mobile” and grand concert waltzes having been composed since that time! It may be noticed, that Weber has thrown the kind of bridge from the Viennese classics’ music to many compositions (and not only the piano ones of the latest epochs, having worked out the models for his followers. It occurred to be the mere waltz, the usual scene of the ball, that became one of the most important models for the whole galaxy of composers (from Berlioz to Tchaikovsky). Weber was the first to place the scene of ball in his “Invitation to Dance”.

This very collection is recommended to the students of musical colleges and conservatoires for to restock and enrich their repertoire.
