The art of Guennady Vavilov, a composer, the People's Artist of Karelia, an Honored Art Worker of Russia, Professor of the Glazunov State Conservatory in Petrozavodsk, is well-known both in Russia and far abroad.

The intensity of Vavilov’s art amazes. Aix symphonies, a symphonietta, an epic poem and a concerto for symphonic orchestra, vocal-symphonic pieces for soloists, choir and orchestra, two concertos and Divertissement in nine parts for violin and orchestra, concerto for piano and orchestra, music for chamber ensembles, two sonata, Romance and Scherzo, The Karelian Notebook, Vepss fantasia for violin and piano, a String quartet, more than hundred vocal compositions — this is not the full list of his compositions! Music by Guennady Vavilov is performed not only in Russia, but also far abroad — in Germany and France, in Finland and Sweden, USA, Norway and other countries. The composer was also highly appreciated at the International Congresses in the USA and England (1996-1999), where he was awarded three times the Grand Gold Medal, the Platinum disk and the Golden Key. Undoubtedly, one of the most vivid and significant pages of Guennady Vavilov's creative work was piano music. 17 sonatas, 14 piano suites, among them there are “Piirilejkki”, “Runes”, “Native Strains”, “Iojkhu”, based on Karelian and Finnish folklore, cycles of piano pieces, as large-scale as “The Northern Album”, “The Way to the Sun”, “Etudes-pictures”, novellas, more than hundred program miniatures. All these compositions did not only enrich the world composition palette of the second half of the 20th century, not very abounding in piano creations. They also seemed to determine the perspectives of this genre development in the 21st century.
