The Compozitor Publishing House • Saint-Petersburg draws your attention to the publication of four volumes “Three Ages of the Russian Romance” for voice and piano. The romances are placed in Russian alphabetic order according to the composers’ surnames.

The genre of romance has been undergoing stylistic evolution in Russia since the 18th century and up to nowadays. Every romance is the kind of special disposition, an attitude to reality, utterly independent of the time and ideological ground. That’s why the non-chronological succession would reveal both contrast, similarity and kinship between vocal and instrumental means of different epochs.

The genre of romance in Russia has experienced the influence of other genres and styles, being simultaneously accepted as the treasury and forge of intonations and facture discoveries for vocal and symphonic canvases. All the trends, researches and styles inherent in the Russian music are reflected in the romance form — miniature by the length and immeasurable by the
insatiable feelings.
