Jean Baptiste Charles Dancla (1817–1907) was a French violinist, composer and teacher. At the age of 6 his music was heard by Pierre Rode, the prominent Frech violinist and composer of the time, who immediately recommended young Charles to Cherubini, Baillot and Kreutzer. Thus he became a student of the Paris Conservatoire by Pierre Baillot (violin) and Fromental Halevy (composition). Since 1835 he became a violin soloist in the Paris Opera, soon became a concertmeister, teaching position in the Paris Conservatoire followed.
His studies that are published in the present book are indispensable in the process of upbringing young violinists, apart from their skill developing ability they feature exquisite melodies.
