Ilia Gringolts was born in 1982 in Leningrad. Не graduated from the Music School No11 of the Vasiliostrovsky district in St Petersburg (violin class — Russian Federation's Honoured Worker of Culture Tatiana Liberova; composition class — Russian Federation's Honoured Worker of Culture — Zhanna Metallidi). 

Being 11 years old he began to take part in violinists' and composers' International competitions, where he constantly won. 

The most great success was the First Prize and two Special Prizes in one of the most prestigeous violinists' competitions — the 45th International Paganini's Prize in Genova (Italy) Ilia occurred to be the youngest laureate of Paganini Prize during this competition's existence.

Ilia was making debuts with symphonic orchestra at the Grand Наll of the Moscow Conservatoire, when he was 11 years old. After this concert Ilia continues to perform on this stage so as on the other best stages of Moscow and St Petersburg. 

His tours' geography is extensive. In spite of his young age he performed as the soloist in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Norway, Finland, Great Britain, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, the USA, etc.  

In 1999 Ilia entered the Juilliard High School of Music in New York to Itskhac Perelman and Dorothy Delay's : class. 

Together with performing activity Ilia composes music. Не is the prize owner of the Petersburg competition's “I am а Composer” (Grand Prix in 1995 у. — for Preludes and Waltzes, in 1996 у. — for Trio for three violins, in 1998 у. — for Sonata-bachiana). The compositions, published in this book were the ones to bring prize to Ilia.

Besides, Ilia is the author of piano, violin and viola concertos, the Vocal cycle for soprano, piano and violoncello to the verses by Harms, the String Quartet and many arrangements for string orchestra and other compositions.
