Every violinist-teacher dreams of interesting aesthetic material, serving simultaneously the pupil’s technical development.

The violin technique is rather specific, for it requires of the musician to play the instrument fluently and skilfully. That’s why the compositions written scholastically, but not on the base of performing practice are sometimes unnatural and queer.

Alexandr Ilyich Dvoyrin is the violinist of great experience in both orchestral and pedagogical spheres. Dvoyrin is the graduate of the well-known P. S. Stoliarsky music school, music college and conservatoire in Odessa. During ten yeas he worked in the Children Music School. For a long time he was the concertmeister of the opera theatre orchestra. Now Dvoyrin is the member of the State symphony orchestra directed by Nikolai Kornev.

This collection is intended for the students of music colleges (beginning with the middle forms) and conservatoires.

Dvoyrin’s etudes-caprices successfully combine both musical and instructive virtues. Their melodious sphere is interesting. Their nature is of violin itself. They help to solve many technical problems. Any musician may use them as “warming” material before performances. They will surely work out your sense of intonation, your technique of passing through positions. The caprices are to develop your skill of the left hand’s fingers, meanwhile they make for your muscles to feel relaxed.

The pieces collected here are widely used by the Petersburgian pedagogues. The distinguished composer Veniamin Basner was one of the first to admit them.
