Anatoly Vladimirovich Kalvarsky (b. 1934, Leningrad) — the Petersburgian composer, Honoured Art Worker of Russia, graduate of the Music College at the Leningrad State Conservatoire, where he studied piano and composition at Galina Ustvolskaya.

That was jazz itself to have got under the composer’s skin already since his green years. Already in 1960 Kalvarsky conducted several jazz bands at once. Among them were the Leningrad Jazz Orchestra “Metronome”, State Azerbaijan Jazz Orchestra, where he worked for many years, winning laureateship at many jazz festivals.

Anatoly Kalvarsky is the author of two musicals (“Tutti — the Heir’s Doll” and “Animals Circle”), nearly 60 orchestra pieces and numerous songs. Actually all the orchestras of Russia were embraced by the composer. Such wonderful poets as Tatiana Kalinina, Regina Lisits, Ilya Reznik, Kim Ryzhov, Oleg Chuprov were attracted by his music. His hits were sung by Mikhail Boyarsky, Larisa Dolina, Lily Ivanova (Bulgaria), Nikolai Karachentsоv, Iosif Kobzon, Muslim Magomayev, Andrey Mironov, Irina Ponarovskaya, Katya Filippova (Bulgaria), Eduard Hil, Sergei Rogozhyn.
