The pieces by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1840–1893), entering this collection, belong to the most favourite and widely performed ones among the composer's violin compositions.

The Melancholic Serenade for violin and orchestra op. 26 dates 1875. Tchaikovsky gave birth to it soon after his First Piano Concerto had been over. This very edition represents the serenade arranged for violin and piano. As to the pieces for piano op. 42 united by the title “Reminiscence of the Dear Place”, they were created in 1878 at N. F. Von Mekk’s request. Their main destination was home music making. Thaikovsky innermost impression connected with his residence at N. F. Von Mekk’s Ukrainian estate (town Brailov, not far from Vinnitsa) are depicted by this music. Here are offered the two pieces from this suite: the Scherzo and Melody.
